Colocation FAQs

Colocation questions, answered

The things businesses most often ask before colocating with VeloxServ near Birmingham.

What is colocation?

Colocation is renting secure space in a professional datacentre to house your own servers and networking hardware. You own the equipment; VeloxServ provides the building, power, cooling, physical security and connectivity — so you get datacentre-grade resilience without building one yourself.

Where are VeloxServ's datacentres located?

We operate two datacentres in the West Midlands: a flagship facility in Wolverhampton and a second site in Redditch, Worcestershire. Both serve Birmingham and the surrounding region.

How far are the datacentres from Birmingham?

The Wolverhampton datacentre is roughly 30 minutes from central Birmingham via the M6 and M54. The Redditch datacentre sits south of Birmingham in Worcestershire — well placed for businesses to the south of the city and for geographic resilience.

What colocation sizes are available?

Options range from 1U–4U single-server colocation, through quarter, half and full 42U racks, to private cages and fully customisable data halls. See the full breakdown on our colocation services page.

How secure are the datacentres?

The facilities are ISO 27001 accredited, with HD CCTV, proximity-based access control, 24/7 monitoring and FM200 fire suppression that protects equipment without water damage.

Is the connectivity carrier-neutral?

Yes. The datacentres are carrier-neutral, with multiple diverse fibre entry points and a 100 Gbps MPLS network core. Carriers include Zayo, BT Openreach and Virgin Media, so you can choose or blend providers.

What uptime can I expect?

We offer a 100% uptime SLA, underpinned by N+N redundant UPS and diesel generators with 24/7 refuelling contracts, plus N+1 cooling for failover during maintenance or faults.

Do you offer remote hands support?

Yes. On-site engineers provide 24/7 remote hands for tasks such as reboots, drive swaps and scheduled work — acting as an extension of your own IT team when you can't be on site.

How much does colocation cost?

Pricing depends on the space, power draw and connectivity you need. Because requirements vary widely, we provide tailored quotes — contact the team with your hardware and growth plans for a custom price.

Can I use both sites for disaster recovery?

Yes. Splitting or replicating workloads across the Wolverhampton and Redditch datacentres gives you physically separate sites for disaster recovery, off-site backup and active-active deployments.
